Steve Davis: Hardy's Injury Causes Infield Shuffle

The question has been raised know what to do without J.J. Hardy? For me, the answer is pretty simple.

I would play Manny at shortstop and Flaherty at third base. I would do that almost every game. For now, the only exception would be when there is a left-handed starting pitcher for the opponent, then I would keep Manny at 3rd, and play Janish at shortstop.

Some people have said to play Chris Davis at third and move Trumbo to first, so you have more offense in the lineup, instead of Flaherty. I would not do that. Number one that makes the defense weaker at third base and at first base. Number two, then Davis has to spend extra time before the games working at third base. It is not just practicing fielding and throwing from third. It is all of the other stuff like making the switches for the shift, cut off positioning, etc.

Just play Manny at short, and Flaherty at 3rd,  unless Flaherty's offense becomes such an issue, that you have to do something else.
