Freight Moving Again Through DC Derailment Site

WASHINGTON (AP) -- A CSX spokesman says freight has begun moving again through the site of a weekend train derailment in Washington.

CSX spokesman Rob Doolittle said in an e-mail that the first train moved through the site Tuesday night around 9:30 p.m. and that normal operations have resumed.

Also on Wednesday, the MARC Brunswick Line is operating on a regular schedule for the first time in two days, although there might be minor delays.

Before CSX could move freight through the area again it removed soil that was affected by a leak of 750 gallons of sodium hydroxide, commonly known as lye, from a damaged tank car. It also had to rebuild railroad tracks damaged in the derailment.

A total of 16 cars derailed during the Sunday morning accident.
