Man Accused Of Killing 3 In Md. Held Without Bond

ROCKVILLE, Md. (WJZ) -- The shooting spree suspect faces a judge. Sixty-two-year-old Eulalio Tordil is accused of openly firing on six people across Montgomery and Prince George's counties, killing three---including his estranged wife.

Meghan McCorkell shares new details about how he was captured, even as loved ones of the victims are coming together to mourn.

Tordil was held without bond Monday in Montgomery County. He faces eight charges, including two counts of first degree murder.

Serial shooting suspect Eulalio Tordil was on the run from police when a lost pair of eyeglasses may have led to his capture.

The terrifying 24 hours began Thursday when investigators say the federal protective services officer gunned down his estranged wife Gladys outside High Point High School and injured another man before taking off.

Friday morning, shots were fired outside Montgomery Mall as police say Tordil tried to carjack a woman. Two men ran to help, including 45-year-old Malcom Winffel, who died at the hospital.

Minutes later, there was another carjacking attempt outside a Giant in Aspen Hill. Claudina Molina struggled with Tordil, knocking off his glasses before she was shot to death.

"Because his glasses had been lost in the struggle, he didn't feel he could adequately drive," said Montgomery County State's Attorney John McCarthy.

Hours later, officers ended the violence, capturing Tordil nearby. Investigators say notes he left indicated he wanted to die in a shootout with police.

Now family, friends and members of the community came together to honor those who lost their lives.

Dozens gathered, including the family of Malcom Winffel, who wore superhero shirts in his honor.

"If somebody was in need or in danger, he would not run away. He would run towards to help and protect," said Malcom's wife, Normal Winffel.

"This is horrible. I mean, I'm still in a daze. I don't understand," said his brother, Sam Winffel.

Now they pray for justice as Tordil faces life behind bars.

A preliminary hearing will be held for Tordil on June 3.

The Victims' Rights Foundation is raising money to help the victims' families. It's called the Heroes Fund.
