Newly Unveiled Sagamore Rye Whisky Coming to A Bar Near You
BALTIMORE (WJZ)--With just days until Preakness, Baltimore-based Sagamore Spirit unveils their new Sagamore Rye, a whiskey with a flavor as strong as it's Maryland heritage.

"It's a great Maryland story and most importantly, the rye is outstanding," said Brian McComas, owner of Ryleigh's Oyster.
Sagamore Rye is 83 proof and blends two straight rye whiskeys and water from Sagamore Farm.
"The idea came about when we found out that the Sagamore Farm was built on a shelf of limestone so the water is filtered through a natural limestone aquafor," said Bill McDermond, co-founder of Sagamore Spirt.
"Maryland has a great history of making rye whiskey and we plan to deliver," said Brian Treacy, who is the is the president of Sagamore Spirit
A project that has been years in the making to ensure the rye is perfect.

"People in Maryland and Baltimore are extremely proud of all things local," said Treacy. "The support of the community is extremely important to us, and we are getting a lot of great support and we can't thank people enough for that. "
If you don't have a taste for whisky you have options like,the Maryland Mule, Black-eyed Rye, Sagamore Crush and the traditional ones like Manhattans and so forth, Treacy says.
The bottle itself is unique.
"We wanted to pay homage to the history, but also come out with a more modern influence on the whiskey," said McDermond.
And with every batch the excitement builds.
"It's important to support the brands that are grown locally here, so we're just getting behind it. We're excited about it and our clientele has proven they are excited about it too," said McComas.
Sagamore Rye is available at more than 200 bars and liquor stores in Baltimore and D.C.
It will also be the exclusive rye whiskey for both the Black-Eyed Susan and Preakness Stakes.
