WEATHER BLOG: Showers & T-Storms

Following a round of rain Friday midday, some peaks of sunshine after the rain departed allowed temperatures to rise to the mid-70s. However, those hoping for a nice weekend will be really disappointed, but those hoping for spring weather may be in for a treat later next week.

A system that brought storms to the Midwest on Friday will move into the area later today. Showers and thunderstorms will break out later this afternoon with a start time between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. Enough morning sun and a strong SW wind should allow us to approach the mid-70s before the storms arrive. Any shower or thunderstorm this afternoon could contain small hail and gusty winds, along with a brief heavy downpour. While the threat will be marginal, it is still important to cover. There could still be a shower or thunderstorm around early this evening east of the city before a cold front slices through the region and a return to March-like weather arrives for Sunday.

Despite some sunshine on Sunday, a strong west wind along with plenty of cold-air advection will make it feel quite cool. Highs should struggle to reach the 60-degree mark, more than 10 degrees below average. With this chilly air around, cumulus clouds will develop during the afternoon which could produce a shower in some spots with the greatest chance north and west of the city. While highs could reach or exceed 60 in some spots, the wind will make it feel in the 50s all day. High pressure will build for Sunday night, allowing for skies to clear and temperatures to dip into the lower 40s. Some outlying areas will dip into the 30s.
