"Wire" Star Wendell Pierce Arrested In Atlanta

ATLANTA (WJZ/AP) — Atlanta police say in a newly released report that actor Wendell Piece became upset by a conversation about politics, then followed a group of people to their hotel room, tried to get inside and hit a woman in the head.

In the report on the Saturday dispute at the Loews Atlanta Hotel, Pierce told police he was standing outside the hotel room on the 23rd floor when the woman and two of her friends tried to pull him inside.

The woman and two witnesses listed in the police report didn't immediately respond to phone messages from The Associated Press.

In an arrest report obtained by WJZ, the victim's account differs, indicating that when the women attempted to push Pierce out of their room he became violet and "hit her in the head" and "grabbed her hoodie".

Police say Pierce was staying on the 18th floor of the hotel.

Both Pierce and the woman decline medical assistance at the scene.

He was transported to the Fulton County Jail and released on $1,000 bond. He faces a charge of simple battery.

Pierce is known for his TV roles as Detective William "Bunk" Moreland on "The Wire" and Antoine Batiste on "Treme."
