Baltimore County Social Services Looking For Foster Parents

TOWSON, Md. (WJZ) -- Baltimore County Social Services is looking for parents who can provide children with a loving home, committing anywhere from a month to several years.

WJZ's Tracey Leong explains.

For Gregory and Tonya Dennis, it's one of the best decisions they've made.

"They've been adventurous. They've given us some youth," said Gregory Dennis.

Five years ago, they opened up their home and hearts to two children -- their second set of kids.

The experience has fulfilled their lives more than they ever imagined.

"Those little boys were jewels. They made us laugh, kept us laughing," said Tonya Dennis.

Sometimes it can be a difficult transition for the foster children. It's not always easy -- taking flexibility, commitment and patience -- proving to be a rewarding experience for Gregory and Tonya.

"To see they can be in a tumultuous situation or hard situation, but see love make it easier for them," Gregory Dennis said.

Baltimore County Social Services is asking for more parents to come forward to help with this critical service.

"What we are looking for is people who have the emotional maturity to care for other people's children, love them like their own and willing to give them back," said Judith Schagrin, Baltimore County Social Services.

It's a call Gregory and Tonya encourage families to answer.

"Children that need the love, and if you can off the love, then I think you should be a part of helping foster a better community," said Tonya Dennis.

Baltimore County has more than 550 children in foster care.
