2 Teens Charged In Armed Robberies At Columbia Exxon

HOWARD COUNTY, Md. (WJZ) — Police in Howard County have charged two teens for their involvement in three robberies at a Columbia gas station.

The investigation began back on December 13, 2015, when a woman reported that she was approached by two suspect with knives while she was getting gas at an Exxon in the 8200 block of Snowden River Parkway.

"One suspect forced her to the ground and held her at knifepoint while the other rifled through her car and wallet," police said.

A similar incident took place at the Exxon gas station on December 19, 2015 when the alleged suspects approached another woman with knives.

"One suspect forced her to the ground and held her at knifepoint while the other took cash and her cell phone," police said.

The latest incident took place on February 5, 2016, when police say the same teens entered the convenience store at the Exxon with their faces partially covered and jumped over the counter.

While armed with a handgun and a knife, the suspects then forced an employee to open the register and took cash before running off.

On Tuesday Howard County Police announced the arrest of 18-year-old Demetrius Burney, of Columbia.

He is facing multiple counts of armed robbery, assault and theft.

The second suspect, a 15-year-old male from Jessup, is facing similar charges as a juvenile.

Burney is being held at the Howard County Detention Center on $750,000 bond. The juvenile suspect was released on community detention with electronic monitoring.
