Rock Climber Hurt In Fall In Western Maryland
SANDY HOOK, Md. (AP) -- A volunteer fire company chief says a rock climber was hurt in an approximately 30-foot fall from a cliff near the confluence of the Potomac and Shenandoah rivers in western Maryland.
Potomac Valley Fire Company Chief Eric Gray said Wednesday that the man fell Tuesday afternoon from the cliff near Sandy Hook. He says a state police helicopter flew the man to Shock Trauma in Baltimore, but his injuries were not life-threatening.
Gray says the man fell while setting up an anchoring system for a climb. He says the man was tethered to a rope that swung him into the cliff before he hit the ground.
The Herald-Mail reports that the man fell from an area called Balcony Rock in the area known as Maryland Heights.
