MDTA Police Officer Charged With Theft From FOP Lodge

BALTIMORE, Md. (WJZ) -- An investigation into funds missing from the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 34 has led to the arrest of a Maryland Transportation Authority police officer, according to Baltimore County police.

Corporal Shane Schapiro, 36, is charged with theft between $10,000 and $100,000, according to police.

The charges stem from an investigation by the Baltimore County Police Financial and Cyber Crimes Unit into money missing from FOP Lodge 34 in Middle River. Cpl. Shapiro is the former president of FOP Lodge 34, which represents Maryland Transportation Authority police officers.

Shapiro has been released on $10,000 bail.

Police declined to release additional details, citing the sensitive and preliminary nature of their investigation.
