Ocean City Gets A Number Of New Attractions This Year

OCEAN CITY, Md. (WJZ) -- Ocean City has plunged into summer with an exciting Memorial Day weekend kickoff. While this resort town is more than a century old, they are constantly looking for ways to change it up, adding new attractions and making improvements every year.

Tracey Leong has more.

Toes in the sand and a salty treat in the hand: everyone has their Ocean City favorites.

"The water and the Boardwalk," said Laura Rossi.

"The Thrasher fries and saltwater taffy," said Mike Cammarata.

"The amusement parks," said Ryan Fant.

While many have their old traditions, this year, you may make a new one.

"We are constantly looking for new attractions, new businesses and, not only that, some of our favorite new businesses who are adding new things," said Ocean City Communications Manager Jessica Waters.

The restaurant and bar Seacrets is adding the first distillery in Ocean City this June and the resort town's first walk-through haunted house just opened up a block down from the Boardwalk.

"Scary movies, scary things---you don't have to wait til Halloween; come to OC Screams in Ocean City," said Waters.

The city is also improving their transportation system, adding high capacity buses and increasing trips so they run every 10 minutes.

Once people arrive in Ocean City, we want them to park and move around with ease," said Ocean City Council Secretary Mary Knight.

For those who drive, Ocean City now has an app that allows drivers to pay meters with their smart phones so they never have to leave the beach.

"Any way we can help to make your vacation more enjoyable is what we are always looking at," Knight said.
