Fallen Md. Heroes Honored At Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens
BALTIMORE (WZ)-- Citizens and veterans take time to honor the courageous men and women of our armed forces this Memorial Day at the Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens.
The names of Maryland veterans are read out loud as hundreds gather for a day of remembrance.
"To me, Memorial Day is not about cookouts, hotdogs. It's about those who have served, provided the freedom for us to enjoy," said Jason McIntyre, who attends ceremony every year.
The annual Memorial Day ceremony is a tradition for some who say it's their patriotic duty to honor the fallen.
"It's important to remember those who have gone before us and those who have passed on and given their life," said veteran Sean Connor.
The crowd pays tribute to generations of veterans as 3500 American flags adorn the graves at the Field of Honor.
"My father who was a World War II veteran, a prisoner of war is buried here," said veteran Ron Houston.
Many people at this year's ceremony say they are grateful for the sacrifice made by the fallen troops and to those still out there on the front lines.
"It makes me emotional," said Kathy Boblits, who's a mother of veteran. "Just having my son in the Marines. He was in Afghanistan, but he was able to come home. He did lose friends over there."
Monday's ceremony serves as a way to thank those who paid the ultimate price and to those putting their lives on the line today.
Two Maryland U.S. Air Force troops who were killed in combat recently, will be honored in next year's Memorial Day ceremony.
