171 Full Time Baltimore City School Jobs Being Eliminated

BALTIMORE (WJZ)--Officials have announced that 171 full time positions are being eliminated from Baltimore City schools.

It's part of a district-wide cost saving measure to address a significant budget gap.

"This is a hard time for the entire City Schools community," said City Schools Acting CEO Tammy Turner. "Eliminating staff is a difficult decision, and it isn't one the district takes lightly. I want to offer my sincere gratitude to the employees who are leaving for their dedication and commitment to our students and schools."

The reduction does not include any principals or teachers.

"City Schools will exhaust every possible opportunity to support all of our employees, especially those who have been impacted by the reductions," said Interim Chief Human Capital Officer, Deborah Sullivan. "We will also offer employee assistance programs, job placement support, and other resources to staff whose positions have been eliminated."

The school district will work to reassign any employees to current open positions.

The last day for those in jobs being cut is June 30th.
