Community Outraged After String of Violent Crimes Against Women In Baltimore

BALTIMORE (WJZ)--It's a string of violent crimes against women that has a Baltimore community outraged.

Tuesday night police met with senior citizens and community members who are fearing for their lives after a recent target of violent crimes against women.

On May 4, police responded to a home invasion in the 4500 block of Garden Drive. Police say 90-year-old Mary Hines was  brutally attacked and sexually assaulted. Hines later died from her injuries.

Then on May 27 in the 2900 block of Rosalind Avenue a 41-year-old associate pastor is gunned down right outside her home.

A suspect with a limp was caught on surveillance running away from the scene.

And now police are searching for the suspect who attacked 71-year-old Pat Artis on May 27 in the 5300 block of Beaufort Avenue.

She was awoken by a man inside her home.

Artis was robbed and sexually assaulted all while a 4-year-old girl inside the home.

"I tried to keep my composure, because I had a 4-year-old sleeping in the other room," she said. "It makes me angry that he even had the opportunity to do to me what he did," she said.

Tuesday night police had to answer to angry residents who believe they've been neglected.

"We called the police twice. We called them twice and they never showed up," said one resident.

The police department's top brass listened and re-assured citizens they're not alone.

"We are angry, we're upset, but this anger that you saw tonight, this frustration and this emotion will turn into resolve, because like I said earlier, we haven't received one phone call, not one tip," said Baltimore Police Commissioner Kevin Davis.

No suspects have been arrested in these cases.
