Chris Davis Leads Orioles To 6-5 Win Over Blue Jays

Baltimore (WJZ) -- Chris Davis drove in the deciding run in the ninth inning as the Baltimore Orioles defeated the Toronto Blue Jays 6-5 on Thursday night.

The Orioles were looking to build on their strong performance against the defending champs when they swept the Kansas City Royals in Baltimore earlier this week. Against the Blue Jays, Baltimore would have to contend against a much more potent lineup.

In the first inning, Manny Machado's RBI double gave the Orioles the early 1-0 advantage. Machado officially received a 4-game suspension for his altercation with Royals SP Yordano Ventura on Tuesday. He has formally appealed the decision.

In the bottom of the first inning, the Blue Jays struck back with 2 runs of their own capped off by an RBI single from Russell Martin. An RBI single from Jose Bautista in the 2nd inning, improved the lead to 4-1 in favor of the Blue Jays.

Baltimore would place two more runs on the scoreboard in the third before a Josh Donaldson triple in the 4th inning gave Toronto a 5-3 lead.

Then it was all Orioles.

A homerun by Pedro Alvarez in the 6th and a similar solo shot by Davis in the 7th, tied the ballgame up at 5-5 where it would stay until the 9th inning. That's when Chris Davis hit a sacrifice fly to center to bring in Joey Rickard for what would be the game-winning run.

The Orioles will look to improve their winning streak to six when they take on Toronto once again on Friday night when Kevin Gausman (0-3 3.52 ERA) goes up against Marco Estrada (4-2 2.41 ERA).
