Footbridge Named for U.S. Marine Killed In Hit-And-Run

THURMONT, Md. (AP) -- Local and state officials have dedicated a footbridge over U.S. 15 to the memory of a U.S. Marine guard at Camp David who was killed in an unsolved hit-and-run.

Family members of Cpl. William Kyle Ferrell attended the ceremony and pig-roast fundraiser Saturday in Thurmont.

Ferrell, of Carthage, North Carolina, died Sept. 29 after he was struck on U.S. 15 near Thurmont. State police say he was helping a disabled motorist on the shoulder of the road during a rainstorm.

The 21-year-old Marine had been assigned to nearby Camp David since 2014.

The bridge is part of the Catoctin Furnace Trail at Cunningham Falls State Park.
