Maine Girl Sitting Alone At Birthday Party Receives More Than 200,000 Cards

BANGOR, Maine (WJZ) — A girl with autism in Maine has received more than 200,000 birthday cards after a photo of the teen sitting alone at her birthday party went viral.

The photo, which was taken last year, shows Hallee Sorenson, of Bangor, Maine sitting alone — balloons and all — at her 18th birthday party.

Her older cousin posted the photo on Facebook earlier this month, saying that Halle was so excited for her 18th birthday party.

"She had been so excited to have a party with her friends. She wanted to go bowling, have fun, and eat cake and Ice Cream," said her cousin Rebecca. "Invitations went out to her classmates at school and to other friends in the area. Hallee sat at her party anxiously waiting for her friends to arrive so they could have fun....but Hallee's friends would never arrive. Not a single one. My cousin is a beautiful young woman who will always have the mind of a child...so as you can imagine, she was heartbroken and beyond sad. She was hurt."

Rebecca says for her 19th birthday she wanted to make it up to Hallee by flooding her mailbox with birthday cards.

Flooding the mailbox puts it mildly. She received over 200,000 cards and letters!
