Drowning of Essex 14-Year-Old Under Investigation

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- The death of a Baltimore County teenager found unconscious in the deep end of a pool Monday night is under investigation, authorities said.

The teen, identified as Meshach Praise Massally, 14, of Essex, had gone into the pool area at Harbor Point Estates, located in the unit block of Nerbay Road, after hours on Monday night, according to Baltimore County Police.

Massally, who could not swim, had been staying in the shallow end of the pool while other children were swimming, police said. At some point, he was found in the deep end and pulled out of the water.

Police were called to the pool just before 9:30 p.m., where they found the teen lying next to the pool. He was rushed to MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center and later transferred to Johns Hopkins Hospital where he died Tuesday morning, according to police.

Homicide detectives are investigating the incident, which is routine for all sudden deaths of juveniles.
