Shooting Victim Dies After Being Found Lying in the Street

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- A 31-year-old man who police found shot in the chest and lying in the middle of the street in Southwest Baltimore early Friday morning has died, authorities said.

A patrol officer was heading to a call for service when he spotted the man in the middle of the road in the 3300 block of Caton Avenue about 12:45 a.m., according to police. He had been shot in the chest.

Paramedics rushed the victim to R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center where he was pronounced dead.

The victim, identified as Leo Cooper, 31, of West Lombard Street, was walking toward the Sunoco gas station in the 3300 block of West Baltimore Street when gunshots rang out, witnesses told investigators. Afterward, Cooper was found lying in the street.
