3 Arrested At Gathering For Slain Baltimore Rapper 'Lor Scoota'

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- There was a heavy police presence in Northwest Baltimore on Monday night after a vigil for "Lor Scoota" shut down a street. The up-and-coming rapper was gunned down Saturday evening.

Earlier Monday, hundreds of people along the 1500 block of Pennsylvania Avenue were out celebrating the life of 23-year-old Tyriece "Lor Scoota" Watson. Many people were singing his songs, WJZ's Ava-Joye Burnett reports.

Baltimore Police Commissioner Kevin Davis said things took a negative turn when a handful of people started throwing bottles and bricks at police officers, who were trying to clear the streets.

"This was a largely peaceful gathering of people who cared for this young man that this city, really, really loved. This gathering tonight included just a couple people who decided to act in their own self interests and agitate the crowd, and in fact, we had rocks and bottles thrown at police officers. Now, we've been there, done that, and that's not going to happen again. We're not going to have police officers assaulted. We're not going to have rocks and bottles thrown at our public safety officials -- not because I don't want it to happen, I certainly don't want it to happen, but this community doesn't want it to happen. So that's not going to happen anymore. So our presence tonight is to keep the peace," Commissioner Davis said.

Commissioner Davis said three people were arrested.

No police officers or citizens were hurt.
