Maryland Live Casino Unveils Plans For New Luxury Hotel

HANOVER, Md. (WJZ) -- The Maryland Live Casino continues to thrive and grow. The company that operates it has unveiled plans for a new luxury hotel at the casino.

Time at a casino is all about pressing your luck and getting the biggest bang for your buck. Maryland Live is now looking to cash in on its newest $200 million investment -- the 17-story, 310 room Live Hotel.

There will be event space, holding 1,500 people and dining able to cater 1,000.

"That would be really nice, building a hotel there," Berlia Pugh said.

"I'm really excited about this. Sushi restaurant, about 70 seats. It will employ another 100 people," said Rob Norton, president of Cordish Global Gaming.

Norton says the hotel is a win-win for Maryland and Anne Arundel County.

"The county desperately needs event space, and it also needs jobs. So 400 new jobs are coming, and we're partnering with Anne Arundel Community College and Workforce Development to make sure we have people ready and willing to go when we have this hotel open," said Norton.

The new addition at Maryland Live Casino will help the flow of traffic around the casino. Part of Arundel Mills Circle will be widened and moved, making way for nearly 1,200 new parking spaces.

"It would help because, believe me not, this place stays crowded all the time," said Pugh. "Never a dull moment."

In addition to the hotel and spa, there is a restaurant inside the casino that will expand as well as a new restaurant coming -- meaning -- new jobs.

Maryland Live plans to have the hotel open by the end of 2017.
