ANNAPOLIS, Md. (WJZ) — Lightning struck the Maryland State House in Annapolis on Friday.

The Annapolis Fire Department responded to reports of a fire at the State House at about 6:30 p.m.

Units later learned the dome had been struck by lightning. There was no fire.

What appeared to be smoke was actually the sprinkler mist system, which is designed to protect the dome.

Firefighters cleared the scene within an hour.

There were no injuries.
