Security Remains Heightened Amid Terror Attacks Abroad

BALTIMORE (WJZ)--As America celebrates its freedom, security is at the top of leaders minds--especially after a string of extremely deadly attacks abroad.

Airports have become a bulls eye for terrorists looking to inflict mass casualty.

A frightening scenario that's on the minds of American travelers.

"I just think that we still have to travel, we can't stop, but you just have to be careful," said Larry Bradley, who's traveling to Boston.

In March it was Brussels. Then last week Turkey, a terror attack that left 41 killed and more than 200 injured.

"The terrorists continue to find the vulnerabilities in the security systems that we have," says CBS News Security Analyst Juan Zarate. "Certainly they didn't penetrate the security, but they found a point of vulnerability that we know exists."

According to AAA, 43 million people are traveling for the fourth of July weekend. About 60 thousand are flying in and out of Maryland, and that's a lot of people to protect.

BWI says it has layers of security with a high level security operation even when there isn't a heightened sense of security.

At the other DC area airports, the stepped up security is highly visible, much like New York and other major U.S. cities.

The record number of travelers is a sign Americans are carrying on with their lives while putting faith in the system.

"I travel fairly often and it seems like the TSA agents I contact with are fairly thorough and serious about their jobs, so I have full faith that they have our best interest at heart," said Tiffany Burba, who travels often.

Despite all the stepped up security law enforcement says there is no credible threat against the U.S. this holiday weekend.
