More Than 500K Hoverboards Recalled Due To Fire Hazard

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- More than half a million self-balancing scooters, commonly referred to as hoverboards, are being recalled because, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, their lithium-ion battery packs can overheat, posing a risk of the products smoking, catching fire or exploding.

There have been at least 99 incident reports of the battery pack problems, including reports that included burn injuries and property damage.

Consumers should immediately stop using the products and contact the recalling company to return their hoverboard for a full refund, a free repair or a free replacement depending on the model.

Several brands and retail stores are included in the recall:

Razor USA LLC, of Cerritos, Calif. -- Hovertrax

Swagway LLC, of South Bend, Ind. -- Swagway X1

Yuka Clothing, of Miami, Fla. -- Wheeli, 2Wheelz, Back to the Future, Mobile Tech, Hover Shark, NWS, X Glider and X Rider

Boscov's, of Reading, Pa. -- Orbit

Overstock.com, of Salt Lake City, Utah -- All hoverboards sold on Overstock.com
