Owners of Md. Wedding Venue Shut Down By County Granted Demolition Permits

BALTIMORE (WJZ) — Buildings at a former Frederick wedding and event venue are apparently set to come down, after the owner of Shade Trees and Evergreens applied for demolition permits.

The business received the building, electrical and plumbing demolition permits for the property located at 11101 Liberty Road in June.

The buildings listed in the permits include restrooms, a bar, an arbor, a greenhouse, a kitchen prep area and prep rooms for brides and grooms.

This comes after the business upset many betrothed couples and at least two high school senior classes that were planning to hold their proms there by closing for business in May after the county discovered it had been operating as an event venue for years without the proper permits.

It also failed to to have its septic tank inspected by the health department, The Frederick News-Post reports.

Shade Trees and Evergreens was given the chance to apply for temporary permits in order to legally use their buildings, but instead chose to apply for demolition.

At least three lawsuits have been filed against the Shade Trees & Evergreens since May, according to court records.

The venue's owner has refused to comment on the matter to the Frederick News-Post.
