Vans Warped Tour Artists Taking Time Out to Spruce Up Parks

THURMONT, Md. (AP) — About 250 rock musicians and roadies are taking time out from the Vans Warped Tour to volunteer for park improvement projects in western Maryland.

They're gathering Tuesday in Thurmont for a 7 a.m. breakfast followed by four hours of community service organized by the nonprofit Journey Through Hallowed Ground Partnership.

Journey Through Hallowed Ground spokesman Shuan Butcher says the artists will help maintain trails and improve facilities at eight locations, including the Appalachian Trail and Catoctin Mountain Park.

The day of community service is wedged between concert dates Monday in Scranton, Pennsylvania, and Wednesday in Mansfield, Massachusetts. The tour stops Saturday at the Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Maryland.

The Journey Through Hallowed Ground promotes awareness of historic sites from Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, to Charlottesville, Virginia.
