Troopers Say Death Of Man Found Lying On Road In Joppa Is Mysterious

BALTIMORE, Md. (WJZ) -- Police say they are no longer sure what the cause of death is for a man who was initially believed to be the victim of a hit-and-run in Joppa early Thursday.

Troopers have determined that a pickup truck driver, identified as 61-year-old Wayne A. Thompson, suddenly came upon the body of 22-year-old Timothy L. White lying in the roadway on Rt. 7 prior to Gunpowder Ridge Road just after 4 a.m.

Thompson, was found giving White CPR when troopers arrived on the scene, told investigators was unable to avoid hitting him.

After an examination of White's body by a forensic examiner at the scene, it is unclear if he had been hit by another vehicle before being struck by Thompson.

Troopers located White's car, a silver Honda CRV, not far from where he was found. It was on a hill on Gunpowder Ridge Road. The engine was running and the vehicle was in drive.

They say they aren't sure at this time why White left his car that way and why he was lying on an intersecting road several hundred feet away.

Family members told troopers White was expected home around 1 a.m. They say they determined White was at a convenience store buying food on Joppa Farm Road shortly after 2 a.m. What happened after that is a mystery.

Troopers from the Maryland State Police Crash Team and investigators from the Criminal Enforcement Division are involved in the continuing investigation.

Anyone who may have seen Timothy White Jr. or his silver Honda CRV in the Joppa area last night or before 4 a.m. this morning is urged to contact Maryland State Police at the Bel Air Barrack at 410-879-2101. Callers may remain anonymous.
