WEATHER BLOG: Hot & Humid Thursday

The Lovin' Spoonful sang it, "Hot time, summer in the city, back of my neck getting dirty and gritty." Welcome to mid July! (Oh, and happy Bastille Day!)

We have a heat advisory in effect area-wide starting at noon and lasting through 8 p.m. Normal is 88 today 95 degrees before heat index. Yep, it is going to be a hot one.

I want you to be on alert for some possible afternoon, and evening, thunderstorms. We are not in a severe "box," but you can just feel the atmosphere needing to flex and, as a cool front moves across the region later, it will.

Now behind that, front temps will remain in the low 90's, and we will lose a little humidity. But we will also lose the "guarantee" of late day thunderstorms and make it just a mention of a typical  "pop-up" afternoon and evening type of event through the weekend.

This time of the year it is evenings and those summer nights that make the day's heat worth it -- out of the glare of the sun, watching those long sunsets and beyond is just great. That is on tap for Saturday, Sunday and Monday! As the Lovin' Spoonful song continues, "...And babe don't you know it's a pity, that the days can't be like the nights, in the summer in the city." True that.

See you tomorrow,

-Marty Bass
