Tip Helps Police Identify, Arrest Fatal Carjacking Suspect
CAPITOL HEIGHTS, Md. (AP) — Police have arrested a suspect in a fatal carjacking at a Capitol Heights gas station.
Prince George's County police say in a news release that a tip from a citizen helped detectives identify Demarko Wheeler of Washington. They had posted a video clip online of the suspect and offered a reward.
Wheeler is charged with murder in the shooting of 68-year-old Alonzo Jackson on Wednesday morning, just after Jackson had filled up the tank of his car. Police say Wheeler took the car, which was found in the District of Columbia.
Jackson died several hours after the shooting.
Officers arrested Wheeler on Sunday in Washington. At a vigil for Jackson on Sunday evening at the shooting site, The Washington Post reports the crowd cheered on hearing of the arrest.
