WEATHER BLOG: Cool Down

The heat which dominated the region for much of July will fade heading into early next week. Today could end the streak of 9 straight days of 90 or above. Along with this cool down will be rounds of showers and thunderstorms.

For this weekend, a storm will track from the Ohio Valley through the Northeast. While the region will remain north of the front on Saturday, some morning sunshine and plenty of moisture should aid in widespread showers and thunderstorms, especially this afternoon. With some sun, we should climb into the upper 80s. We cannot rule out something spotty in the morning but the afternoon looks the busiest. High precipitation values near 2 inches as well as some wind shear should aid in some storms being heavy and damaging, capable of knocking down some tree limbs and power lines. This activity should weaken and become more widespread tonight with the loss of daytime heating.
