Two Jailed in Moco For Hate Crime Attack On Transgender Women

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Two men were arrested on Monday after allegedly attacking two transgender women who recorded them calling them slurs outside a Silver Spring 7-Eleven store.

The victims, ages 36 and 44, were trying to go inside the store, located in the 11400 block of Amherst Avenue, just after 2:30 a.m. when the suspects confronted them and started making denigrating comments about their sexual orientation, according to Montgomery County Police.

When the 36-year-old victim started taking video of the incident on her smartphone, one of the suspects threw a cup of noodles on the victims and started punching and kicking them as they wrestled the phone away, police said.

The suspects took off after grabbing hold of the phone, but were taken into custody in the 11200 block of Georgia Avenue.

Police said the victims were treated for minor injuries.

Carlos Hernandez-Sanez, 18, and Edras Vasquez, 20, are charged with robbery, second-degree assault, malicious destruction of property and harassment of a person based on sexual orientation.
