Miley On AL East Race: "It's Going To Be A Dog Fight"

The Orioles acquired left-handed starting pitcher Wade Miley from the Seattle Mariners in exchange for minor-leaguer Ariel Miranda Sunday.  The new Oriole joined the Scott Garceau Show with Jeremy Conn today to talk about the move to Baltimore.

Miley is coming off three consecutive quality starts with the Mariners, allowing only six runs in 19 1/3 innings. He discussed being traded to Baltimore. "It's part of the game and I'm fortunate that I was able to come here to Baltimore. [The Orioles are a] first place team, and hopefully [I can] help them out and get to the playoffs."

The Orioles have a .987 fielding percentage, which is good for fifth in the MLB. Miley said he is looking forward to pitching with the Orioles defense behind him. "Obviously my goal is to keep it on the ground and we've got some guys to make the plays. In the outfield, Adam Jones is one of the best in the game out there running them down."

Miley pitched in the AL East last season with the Boston Red Sox, so he has experience pitching in the division. He said he knows what to expect down the stretch. "It's going to be a dog fight to the end and that's what I look forward to. It's going to be fun playing meaningful baseball here in August and September."
