BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- An Arizona couple faces charges after authorities said their toddler was found wandering unattended for more than an hour while they played Pokemon Go, KPHO in Phoenix reports.

A neighbor called 911 after discovering the boy outside his Pinal County home on Thursday night, according to the Sheriff's Office.

The child, who was found barefoot and wearing only a diaper and a T-shirt, was red-faced and crying hysterically as he tried to get inside the home, according to KPHO's report.

Deputies found no one inside the home, which was unlocked, but located a phone number for someone believed to be the child's father and called it, authorities told the news station.

When deputies called to tell the man they had found his son alone, he reportedly said, "Whatever," before hanging up the phone.

When the parents turned up later, they allegedly acknowledged leaving their son home alone while they went out to play the popular scavenger hunt game in surrounding neighborhoods.

Brianna Daley, 25, and her husband Brent, 27, were taken into custody on charges of child endangerment and child neglect, KPHO reports.

The boy has reportedly been placed in the custody of the Department of Child Safety, which said it has had no prior contact with the family related to the child.

"Our agency and many other law enforcement agencies have been warning people about personal safety while playing this interactive smartphone game, but we never would have imagined that parents would abandon a child to play Pokemon Go. This goes beyond comprehension," Babeu said, according to the report.

The arrest marks the latest in a string of incidents related to the game that has made national headlines. Last month, a driver allegedly admitted he was distracted by the game when his car slammed into a parked police car in Baltimore, narrowly missing two officers.
