New Details to Be Released After Pipe Bomb Damages Md. Cop Car

THURMONT, Md. (WJZ)—Authorities in Thurmont, Maryland are expected to release additional information Saturday afternoon after a metal pipe bomb was detonated on a police vehicle earlier this week.

Police responded back on August 4, 2016 around midnight after residents reported hearing an explosion near Clark Avenue in Thurmont, Maryland.

Thurmont Police Department Police later discovered that one of their vehicles has exploded due to a metal pipe bomb.

No officers were injured in the incident, investigators say.

Local and federal law enforcement are expected to release new details in the investigation this afternoon.

The ATF says they are offering a reward of up to $5,000 with information that leads to an arrest.

"Anytime a law enforcement officer is attacked in this manner, ATF will focus all of its investigative efforts and expertise to make sure that the person or persons involved are brought to justice," said Daniel L. Board Jr., Special Agent in Charge for the ATF Baltimore Field Division. "ATF, along with the Thurmont Police Department and our other law enforcement partners are committed to ensuring that our communities are safe and that those who threaten or attempt to kill police officers are held accountable for their dangerous and violent actions."
