Swimmer, 18, Who Drowned in Little Magothy River ID'd

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- State and local authorities recovered the body of an 18-year-old swimmer who drowned in the Little Magothy River near Annapolis on Saturday afternoon.

Christopher Thomas Cervasio was swimming at Cape St. Claire Community Beach about noon when witnesses noticed him go under, Maryland Natural Resources Police spokesperson Candy Thompson told WJZ. Thompson said someone at the family outing called 911 when the victim did not resurface.

Dive teams and boat crews deployed by Natural Resources Police and Anne Arundel County Fire later located his body about 4:30 p.m., according to a tweet from the agency.

Thompson said the water at the beach is fairly shallow, but noted there are significant drop-offs in certain spots. "We've had people drown there before," she told WJZ.

The victim's body is being taken to the Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy.
