Md. Man Dies After Attempting to Save Nephew At Jersey Shore

WILDWOOD, N.J. (WJZ)—A Maryland man has died after he tried to rescue his nephew from a rip current at an unguarded beach at the Jersey Shore, according to the Press of Atlantic City.

It happened on Sunday around 7:00 p.m. at Garfield Ave. in Wildwood, New Jersey

According to the Press, Adan Guevara, 29, of Rosedale, Maryland, ran into the water when he noticed his nephew in distress. That's when Guevara ran into some trouble himself.

Emergency crews responded, pulling Guevara, his nephew and a third person from the water, the Press reports.

Guevara was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead on Tuesday.

"It's a tragedy. The water can change so quickly and pull people out and they get panicky. It feels like someone has you and you have no control," said Wildwood Commissioner Anthony Leonetti
