Workers Freed After Getting Trapped in Washington Monument Elevator

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Three people were trapped briefly inside an elevator at the Washington Monument on Saturday night, authorities confirmed to WJZ.

The people, believed to be employees, reported they were stuck about 9:30 p.m., a spokesperson for the U.S. Park Police told WJZ in a phone interview.

About 10:10 p.m., Fox 5 DC reported the workers had been freed, adding that between 50-60 visitors were taking the stairs down.

It's not the first time someone has gotten trapped inside the monument's elevator, Sgt. Anna Rose told WJZ.
