Maryland Apparel Retailers Readying for Tax-Free Week

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP/WJZ) -- Maryland apparel retailers are readying for a week of tax-free sales.

Beginning Sunday, qualifying clothing and shoes priced $100 or less will be exempt from the state's 6 percent sales tax.

Tax-Free Week comes just in time for back to school shopping. Retailers say the only other times they get this much business, are during the December and Easter.

And the savings can add up!

According to the National Retail Federation, back-to school-shoppers are spending an average of $674 in 2016. That's up from $630 last year. The biggest cost? Apparel and accessories.

The sales-tax-free week ends next Saturday, August 20. More information about the tax-free week is available at: www.marylandtaxes.com.
