Melewski Talks O'Day, Britton & Stretch Run

Steve Melewski from MASN joined the Scott Garceau Show with Jeremy Conn to talk injured Darren O'Day, Zach Britton in the Cy Young race and much more.

Orioles relief pitcher Darren O'Day went on the disabled list Saturday with a rotator cuff strain. Melewski is confident that he'll return this season. "Based on what we're hearing right now, I'm not concerned…They thought he could be back by the end of the 15 days. They gave him a shot and they diagnosed it as a strain and not anything that needed a procedure."

The Orioles are 66-51 and sit a half game behind the Toronto Blue Jays in the A.L. East. Melewski thinks their schedule is favorable down the stretch. "I think it's set up for the Orioles to finish strong. Fourteen of the next 19 are home, 25 of the final 45 are home where they've played nearly .700 baseball…At home they just look like they can play with anybody."

Orioles closer Zach Britton is now 37 for 37 in save opportunities this season and hasn't given up an earned run since April 30. Melewski talked about Britton in the American League Cy Young race. "That'll help his cause if no one is just so dominant with a starter season…And especially if the Orioles can win the East it'll be big. What he's doing is pretty amazing."
