Renewed Pleas From Police To Solve Deadly Home-Invasion

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- A vicious crime against an elderly Baltimore woman remains unsolved.

On May 4, 90-year-old Mary Hines was brutally assaulted, tied and left for dead inside her Park-Heights home.

Those who knew Hines say she was frail, friendly and did not deserve such a horrific death.

"She was a nice lady" said neighbor Clifton Dunn. "She never bothered anybody."

When police responded to a report of a home invasion in the 4500 block of Garden Drive, they found Hines slumped on the dining room floor, barely able to move.

"He must of dragged her inside the house because it looked like a carpet burn" said Margie Jackson, Hines' niece.

Hines died three weeks later at the hospital. The savage beating of the elderly woman outraged her family and neighbors.

"It's very hard for our family" said Linda Jackson, victim's niece. "They need to find out who did this to my aunt."

The medical examiner declared Hines' death a homicide, but no one has been arrested for the callous crime.

"Mary Hines was 90 years old... 90 years old... and she was in her home when she was brutally assaulted by a person," said Detective Jeremy Silbert. "And this is someone that we need off the streets, and we need him off the streets now"

Neighbors say Hines lived alone. They believe she was targeted, and that her attacker knew her daily routine.

"They knew she was down there by herself and they knew it was check day"said Dunn. "So how would you know to go down to her house on check day to rob her?"

If you know anything that may help police, you are urged to call Metro Crime Stoppers at 1-866-7-LOCKUP.
