Home Explosion Damage Costs Estimated at $2.5 Million

HANCOCK, Md. (AP) -- The Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office is estimating $2.5 million worth of damage from a fiery explosion that destroyed a home and some pricey vehicles in western Maryland.

Spokesman Bruce Bouch said Friday it could be days before investigators learn the cause of the fire Thursday at a rural property near Hancock, about 80 miles from Baltimore. He says there's no indication so far of foul play.

Bouch says the fire originated inside the two-story, 10,000-square-foot house, possibly in the basement, and spread to some attached garages.

Homeowner Anthony McLean told The Herald-Mail Thursday night that the fire destroyed a Lamborghini sports car and two Mercedes-Benz vehicles.

McLean says a woman who escaped from the house was his girlfriend.
