Orioles Acquire LHP Kyle Lobstein From Pittsburgh Pirates

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- The Orioles have acquired LHP Kyle Lobstein from the Pittsburgh Pirates in exchange for LHP Zach Phillips. To make room on the 40-man roster, LHP Ashur Tolliver has been designated for assignment.

Lobstein, 27, has gone 2-0 with a 3.96 ERA (11 ER/25.0 IP) over 14 games with the Pirates this season, holding left-handed hitters to a .083/.241/.083 (2-for-24) slash line. He went 1-3 with a 4.11 ERA (23 ER/50.1 IP) and 42 strikeouts over 19 games (six starts) with Triple-A Indianapolis this season. Originally selected by the Tampa Bay Rays in the second round of the 2008 First-Year Player Draft, Lobstein has gone 6-10 with a 5.06 ERA (72 ER/128.0 IP) in 34 career Major League games (17 starts). Over 171 career minor league games (156 starts), he has posted a 53-54 record with a 3.85 ERA (379 ER/887.0 IP) and 761 strikeouts.

Phillips, 29, went 9-3 with a 4.45 ERA (30 ER/60.2 IP) over 49 games with Triple-A Norfolk this season.

Tolliver, 28, went 1-0 with a 5.79 ERA (3 ER/4.2 IP) in five games with the Orioles this season.
