BALTIMORE (WJZ)– A Baltimore man will spend a quarter of a century behind bars, convicted of robbing and beating a woman to the brink of death in her home.
A 66-year-old woman was robbed and viciously beaten by 40-year-old James Boudreaux, a convicted sex offender and drug user.
Prosecutors say Boudreaux only got away with 57 dollars from the woman he left for dead, who sometimes helped the victim with odd jobs around the house for a little cash.
WJZ obtain the 911 calls from the police depicting the gruesome attack: “Oh my god mom, stay with me, oh my god,” said the he victim’s daughter frantically on the phone.
Attorneys say money for the drugs fueled the attack. Police say high on crack-cocaine, Boudreaux came to the woman’s home.
She let him in and he began beating her, hitting her so hard he broke his hand.
“I can tell you as far as the injury goes, this was a vicious attack,” said Michael Hudak, assistant state’s attorney.
“Oh my god I just walked in the door and my mom’s on the floor, she’s bleeding.”
“Where’s she bleeding from, ma’am?”
“Her head, her head, her whole face is completely swollen.”
The woman was in a coma for 10 days. Covered head to toe in bruises and suffering from a traumatic brain injury.
Boudreaux will spend 25 years in prison for the attack, time that fits the crime, according to city state’s attorney Marilyn Mosby.
“Individuals that prey upon the vulnerabilities of women and seasoned individuals and children — we’re not tolerating.” said Mosby.
Assistant State’s Attorney Michael Hudak says the victim is doing better, but still has lasting effects from her brain injury, including post traumatic stress.
Boudreaux’s sentence also includes 5 years probation. If he violates that probation, he could face life in prison.
