Philadelphia Police Officer Shot in Shooting Rampage

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- A fatal shooting spree in Philadelphia leaves one women dead and five others wounded. The shooter is now dead, after he was killed during a shootout with police.

Authorities say the gunman was no stranger to police because of his criminal past.

"It's just one of those things that so surreal, you can't get your brain around it-- so many people harmed," said Philadelphia Police Commissioner, Richard Ross.

"I heard it and then I heard more and then I heard it getting closer and closer," said witness Bascia Clark.

A rampage that ends with one women dead and five injured, two of which are police officers.

Police officer, Sergeant Sylvia Young, 46, was ambushed in her police car. Police say she was shot at close range 18 times with 9 mm Ruger.

"Fortunately, at least one or two were lodged in her ballistic vest. She took some rounds to the arm. He actually struck her service weapon twice," said Philadelphia Police Commissioner, Richard Ross.

Sergeant Young is expected to recover.

Police say Glenn went on to the Maximum Level Lounge nightclub, shooting a security guard and even using a woman as a human shield before eventually shooting her in the leg.

By nightfall, police say Glenn shot into an occupied car, shooting one woman. The woman died at the hospital hours later.

The chaos finally ending after police and University of Pennsylvania security officer Eddie Miller corned Glenn in an alley. Miller was wounded but is expected to survive. The suspect was killed.

A note later found by police expressing hatred for police was found at the scene, suggesting Glenn was trying to target a police officer. "I would have no difficulty believing mental illness played a role in the suspect's actions," said Philadelphia Police Commissioner Ross.
