Poll: 7 Percent Of Voters Have Lost Friends Over 2016 Election
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- If you're getting through this election season with a little help from your friends, consider yourself lucky.
A new poll from Monmouth University in New Jersey says 7 percent of people report having lost or ended a friendship because of the presidential race.
Perhaps surprisingly, that number is not so unusual. Seven percent of voters say they have lost friendships over political campaigns in the past.
The poll, conducted by telephone between September 22 and 25 with 802 registered voters, also found:
- 70% of American voters say that this year's presidential campaign has brought out the worst in people
- 30% of voters say that the harsh language used in politics today is justified given the current state of the country
- 20% say they are "angry" with Washington, about two-thirds (66%) say "dissatisfied" is a better description of how they feel
