Ravens Suggest NFL 'Clean Up' The Rule On Fumbles In The End Zone

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- After Sunday's game, the Baltimore Ravens are suggesting that the NFL take a better look at what is considered one of the "stranger" rules of football, fumbles in the end zone.

During Sunday's 16-10 loss to the Redskins, C.J. Mosley intercepted a pass from Cousins and returned it toward the end zone. Attempting to score a touchdown, Mosley extended the ball across the goal line but ultimately lost control and rolled out of bounds.

Not only did the Ravens not get the six points, they gave possession of the ball back to the Redskins as well as staking them at the 20-yard line because it was ruled a touchback, even though the team did not actually recover the fumble.

If the ball had gone out of bounds before breaking the goal line, the Ravens would've retained possession and would have faced first-and-goal.

Coach John Harbaugh has been pretty outspoken on rules before. This time he is suggesting another rule get a closer look, "If you fumble it out of bounds anywhere else, the team that loses the ball gets the ball right there. If you fumble it through the end zone, you lose the ball and you lose 20 yards of field position. [That's] pretty hard one to figure out."
