Payroll Glitch Leaves School Employees With Incorrect Pay

ELLICOTT CITY, Md. (AP) -- A payroll glitch has had employees in one Maryland school district receiving incorrect amounts of money in their paychecks.

Our media partner The Baltimore Sun reports that about 1,500 workers in the Howard County public schools got less or more money than they should have. The errors are being attributed to problems with a computerized payroll system. The issue has continued through seven pay periods.

The school system employs about 8,100 people. It adopted the new payroll system this year. Errors have included some employees receiving no pay or less pay than owed.

School system spokesman John White said the average amount misplaced was about $40. White said school officials will continue to monitor the system but have corrected the technical problems.
