Mayor-Elect Pugh Promises Community Development In Baltimore
BALTIMORE (AP) — Baltimore's mayor-elect in her first speech promised to revitalize the city's neighborhoods, work to take back the public school system from state control and prioritize community policing.
At a news conference Wednesday Catherine Pugh announced her transition team, and laid out her plans as the city's next mayor.
Among her priorities is introducing legislation that will place the public school system, which has been under state control for nearly 20 years, and reorganize the embattled housing department, recently the subject of a lawsuit alleging that women living in public housing were sexually harassed and assaulted by janitorial staff.
Pugh also said she intends to keep Commissioner Kevin Davis in his role as police chief.
