Ocean City Officer Not At Fault For Fatally Striking Man

OCEAN CITY, Md. (AP) — Authorities have determined that an on-duty Ocean City police officer was not at fault for fatally striking a pedestrian with his vehicle.

Ocean City police say Worcester County State's Attorney Beau Oglesby found that there was no criminal liability to assess to any party involved in the May 3 death of 67-year-old Jeffrey Yale Delong, of Kutztown, Pennsylvania.

Delong was walking in a crosswalk against a pedestrian signal when he was hit by Officer Xeniya Patterson. He later died at a hospital.

Police say their internal Crash Review Board concluded the crash was non-preventable and that Patterson did not need any disciplinary action or additional training in response to the incident.
