Police: Missing UMD Student Kaitlyn George Spotted In Baltimore
College Park, Md. (WJZ) -- University of Maryland Police Department has released new information on the search for College Park student Kaitlyn George. Police say the student has now been seen in Baltimore, one day after she was reported missing.
University of Maryland Police now says that the 21-year-old student from New Jersey was reported seen on November 11, after being seen leaving her dorm, with a camping bagpack and pink bag. She reported to have been heading to go on a camping trip with her boyfriend. After she did not show up, her boyfriend came to the police station to report her missing.
University of Maryland police say in a statement at 4:44 p.m. on Thursday, November 10, George got into a white taxi cab, alone, and of her own accord, in front of Annapolis Hall on the college campus. Investigators then located and spoke to the taxi cab driver, who say George was taken to Baltimore City. The driver told authorities that she was dropped off in front of a Marina in Federal Hill.
UMPD investigators report they are working with the Baltimore City Police Department to review security footage from the Marina. Since their communications, security footage indicated that just after being dropped off by the taxi cab, George appeared to get into another waiting vehicle on her own accord and by herself.
In their statement, UMPD say at around 8:40 a.m. on November 11, a witness reported seeing George on a Baltimore Charm City Circulator bus. Investigators interviewed this witness and verified this sighting.
"Investigators continue to follow up on investigative leads and tips," said the UMPD in a statement.
Police have been unable to track her phone. Police tell WJZ they do not suspect foul play and urging the public to come forward with any information.
"We are all coming together to find her," Tyler Rockhill, University of Maryland student.
Initial surveillance video shows George carrying a large backpack and pink bag. George's family tells WJZ she was planning on going camping with her boyfriend, but never showed up.
"Our biggest concern is we just want to know she is okay, and so if anyone has had any contact with her, to contact us. Police do not suspect foul play, and are investigating every lead," said Sgt Rosanne Hoaas, University of Maryland police.
Flyers with George's image are posted all over campus, as well as social media.
"Everyone is kinda freaking out, really trying to find her, everyone is really looking hard the word is spreading around campus," said Tyler Rockhill, University of Maryland student.
The student is described as five feet, three inches tall, 121 pounds, with blond hair and hazel eyes.
The mystery surrounding her disappearance has left students feeling unsettled.
"Feel so safe usually on campus, but to know something like this happen outside where I live is crazy," said Hayley Garrick, University of Maryland student.
